International Saimoe League – What Happened?

Posted by KholdStare88 on 13th August 2009

If you have been voting in International Saimoe League (ISML), then you may have noticed that its website is currently down. The staff of ISML said that they have domain renewal difficulties. Apparently, it cannot be done since there are login problems. The staff is hopeful that ISML will eventually be back up, although a delay of one week or more can be expected. The votes of Diamond 2 were able to be saved before this unfortunate events, so ISML will continue with Diamond 3 when its domain is back.

If you want to be updated with ISML, then check out its Twitter page. Most of the staff and some of its voters have a community on IRC, channel #ISML on server irc.rizon.net. You can enter this channel directly via ChatZilla if you have the add-on and is using Firefox. Since Diamond 3 is originally schedule for Friday and will probably be rescheduled to another Friday, it would be safe to check back with the ISML site every Friday to see if the problem is resolved.

The results of Diamond 2 will be posted on at least four blogs this Friday. They are:

  1. Lunatic Antics
  2. Moe Tournament Ratings
  3. Saimoeはたいへんしんこく!
  4. Desu ex Machina

Thanks voters for your patience while this problem is being worked on.

International Saimoe League 2009: Ruby Necklace!

Posted by KholdStare88 on 7th August 2009

For those of you following the International Saimoe League 2009 (ISML), then you will hopefully know that the voting for Ruby 9, the last round of the Ruby Period, begins Friday, August 7. For those of you who are not, ISML is an international saimoe tournament that gathers popular moe opinion from all over the world and try to crown “the best of the best” for that year. After the final round of a period, a necklace winner is named, which is the contestant who performed the best in the 9 rounds of that period. In Ruby 8, Haruhi Suzumiya lost her chance at the Ruby Necklace with her defeat to Taiga Aisaka. Now, the frontrunners are Hinagiku Katsura, Kotomi Ichinose, Shana, and Yuki Nagato.

Even though Haruhi is down, she can still stir things up. If she manages to defeat Shana in Ruby 9, then the Ruby Necklace will elude Shana’s grasp. Because of the SDO system, the harder your oponent is for Ruby 9, the better off you are at winning the necklace, since defeating strong opponents adds lots of points to a contestant’s SDO. Hinagiku and Shana are both facing opponents who won 8 times during Ruby, Tomoyo Sakagami and Haruhi, respectively. If Hinagiku and Shana manages to win their match, then they are in top contention for the Ruby Necklace. But that is if they win. Statistically, Shana has an Edge over Haruhi but Tomoyo has an edge over Hinagiku. It looks like Shana has the best chance at the necklace.

Here are the SDO of the undefeated characters so far in Ruby:

Hinagiku Katsura: 87
Kotomi Ichinose: 84
Shana: 78
Yuki Nagato: 78
Holo: 72
Suigintou: 60
Tomoyo Sakagami: 54

Remember, the one with the highest SDO in the end wins, and the harder the opponent that a contestant beats, the more points will be added to current SDO. From the looks of it, Kotomi still stands a chance, but it depends on Kotomi’s previous opponents in Ruby 1-8, since whether or not they win in Ruby 9 will still affect Kotomi’s SDO. It is safe to say that Suigintou and Tomoyo are out, but Holo still has a slight chance. But if any one of these contestants lose in Ruby 9, then they are out. So even if Hinagiku looks unstoppable, if she loses, then she is out. Similarly, if you want to ensure that Hinagiku wins, then better campaign against Shana and Kotomi. Are some of these characters among you favorite? Support them by Voting in Ruby 9 of ISML 2009!
